TORONTO -- Buffalo Sabres tough guy John Scott was looking for a fight. Trey Marshall Jersey . The Toronto Maple Leafs werent happy when he picked Phil Kessel as his opponent. Kessel, who had already scored twice in the Leafs 5-3 pre-season win on Sunday, stands at six feet tall compared to Scott, whos eight inches taller. The two arent even close to being in the same weight class and Kessel wasnt in any mood to get involved. Kessel backtracked and swung his stick a few times at Scott as several teammates rushed in. "It was pretty stupid, right? He said he was going to jump me," Kessel said. "What are you going to do? Hes a big boy so if hes coming after me, what are you going to do?" The incident came with 10 minutes left in the game and set off a line brawl and a goalie fight between Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier and Ryan Miller of the Sabres. It came right after a fight between Jamie Devane of the Leafs and Corey Tropp of the Sabres. "That guys a big guy, six foot five," said Sabres head coach Ron Rolston. "And (Tropps) a smaller guy but certainly a battler. So guys werent happy about it." Tropp was left bloodied on the ice after the fight and had to leave the game. "(Tropp) was the guy who instigated the fight," said Leafs coach Randy Carlyle when asked about the incident that allegedly left the Sabres upset and sparked Scott to go after Kessel. "Obviously maybe they felt that was the problem was that there was a bigger man fighting a smaller guy." Kessel was issued a match penalty for swinging his stick, which means an automatic suspension pending a ruling from NHL commissioner Gary Bettman. Any discipline the Leafs sniper faces will likely pale in comparison to what teammate David Clarkson may be expecting as he jumped off the bench to join the fracas. Clarkson could get 10 games for coming off the bench. "Were not proud or happy that went on, thats for sure," said Carlyle, who also said that he sent out Kessels line in the hopes of defusing the situation after the fight between Devane and Tropp. "I think Dave Clarkson made a mistake and now well pay for it." Clarkson was unavailable to the media after the game. "I think Clarkson will get 10 games for that," said Miller. "Are we going to see Clarkson our first game against these guys? I dont have my schedule. So probably not the brightest move by him. But I guess they figured they needed two guys to take down John (Scott)." As the altercation reached a fever pitch, Bernier skated out of his crease and challenged Miller. The two went at it near the Sabres blue-line. They grappled for a few minutes as the officials were otherwise preoccupied with the rest of the violence. "I just asked him if I wanted to go and obviously I dont think he seemed that he actually wanted to go but thats the way it goes," said Bernier. "Its a hockey game but you get hyper in energy and I wanted to defend my teammates." Bernier was replaced by Drew MacIntyre and Miller by Matt Hackett. Apart from Kessels two goals, the Leafs also had goals from Trevor Smith, Josh Leivo and Jake Gardiner while Nikita Zadorov, Jamie McBain and Tropp scored for Buffalo. By the end of the game, the benches on both sides were looking bare after numerous fighting majors and 10-minute misconducts were handed out. A night after the same two teams needed a 15-round shootout to settle a 3-2 win for the Leafs, Kessel opened the scoring at 1:35 of the first. Kessel was camped in front of the Sabres goal and was in the right place when Tyler Bozaks centring pass was deflected into his path and he knocked in the loose puck. Smiths first of the pre-season came just past the halfway mark when he was the beneficiary of another Buffalo deflection. Gardiner led a three-on-one rush into the Buffalo zone and fed a pass from the left side that took a deflection off a Buffalo skate and, with Miller taken out of position, Smith had a relatively easy tap-in. After Zadorov got the Sabres on the board in the dying seconds of the first, Kessel restored the lead at 15:49 of the second period when he cut toward the middle of the ice from the left side and snapped a quick shot past Miller. Leivos goal proved to be the winner at 16:52 of the third when he banged in a cross-ice pass from James van Riemsdyk. Drew Lock Jersey . Despite Barcelona showing the same vulnerability in defence, Messis best performance since returning from a lengthy injury layoff ensured that his side bounced back from a defeat by Valencia in the previous round. Kevin Hogan Jersey . The game had many controversial incidents that, upon closer inspection, were not as controversial as many believed. The Formations Toronto FC lined up in its usual 4-4-2 formation, with Nick Hagglund slotting in at right fullback and Bradley Orr at centreback in place of the injured Mark Bloom and Steven Caldwell, respectively. http://www.cheapbroncosjerseysauthentic.com/?tag=authentic-juwann-winfree-jersey . The German has taken the pole for three straight races -- winning the first two. Hes aiming for a third consecutive win at the Yeongam circuit and, most importantly, a fourth consecutive F1 championship.PHOENIX - With a push from the NFL, all 50 states and the District of Columbia passed youth concussion laws over the span of about five years. They were modeled after legislation passed in Washington state in 2009. But an Associated Press analysis shows just 21 of the laws that followed included all four key elements in Washingtons bill.Washington state is the gold standard, said Peter Carfagna, the founder of a sports marketing company and a teacher at Harvard Law School. I have a hard time thinking of a good reason why youd deviate from it.Heres an explanation of why those basic tenets are considered important:IMMEDIATELY REMOVING ATHLETE SUSPECTED OF HAVING A CONCUSSIONThis is the most rudimentary of the provisions, and yet its not mandated by two states, Illinois and Wyoming.Immediately leaving a game or practice is important because a person is at increased risk for a second, more dangerous, concussion while the brain is still healing from one.One and youre out. No same-day return, said Richard Ellenbogen, co-chairman of the NFLs head, neck and spine committee. Anybody suspected the key word is suspected of having a concussion, (is) pulled out.Arizona and South Carolina allow a player to return the same day if cleared by a doctor whos present.EDUCATING COACHESAs news about head injuries connected to sports has spread, its become easier to drive home the importance of recognizing symptoms so a coach, for example, knows when to send a player to the sideline.Awareness has risen, and were evaluating more students for concussions than ever, said Cynthia Clivio, a high school athletic trainer for the private Kamehameha Schools in Hawaii. Part of it is, our coaches are more educated.New Yorks law, for example, says schools coaches, gym teachers, nurses and athletic trainers must take a course that covers how to recognize, treat and monitor students concussions.INFORMATION FORM SIGNED BY ATHLETE AND PARENTPart of the process of increasing awareness is making athletes and parents aware of the dangers of concussions and of the dangers of continuing to play or practice when suspected of getting a concussion.Dr. Dawn Comstock, who is studying the laws effectiveness as part of a project funded by the Centers for Disease Control, called those forms an importannt part of the overall education piece. Troy Fumagalli Jersey. RITTEN CLEARANCE BY A HEALTH CARE PROVIDER WITH CONCUSSION TRAININGThe more specific this part of a law, the lower the chances an athlete will return to action before its safe. This element of the laws was the least consistent. Only 30 states other than Washington contain both elements that the clearance be in writing, and that it come from a health care provider with concussion training. That language was very carefully chosen, said Jay Rodne, the Republican who sponsored the law in Washington state. We wanted to make sure ... a school district could not just have an uncertified or unlicensed athletic trainer who was given the title athletic trainer but had no certification or no credentials to clear an athlete.Rodne, along with academics who tracked the laws, said advocacy groups for various types of health care providers tried to influence decisions on who would be allowed to clear athletes. As for requiring something in writing, Harvards Carfagna said: Without having something in writing to establish who gave the clearance, theres a better chance it could be someone unqualified. Theres no fingerprint.EVEN LAWS THAT MEET ALL FOUR STANDARDS ARENT AS STRONG AS THEY COULD BERodne said enforcement mechanisms were too costly to get approved. In Oklahoma last year, a bill that failed would have suspended athletic trainers, coaches or referees who allow an athlete with a concussion to return to action later that day.Other attempted improvements were rejected, too. In Massachusetts, for example, baseline concussion testing for all high school athletes to allow someone treating them to better gauge whether they have a head injury was considered in 2013. In Maryland, a 2014 bill would have made players on one high school football team per county wear concussion impact sensors to track brain injuries. Our work is not done. Its not even close to being done, Ellenbogen said. Were changing the culture, but weve got to reach all Americans.___Follow AP Pro Football Writer Howard Fendrich on Twitter at http://twitter.com/HowardFendrichFollow AP National Writer Eddie Pells on Twitter at http://twitter.com/epells___Online:AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL Twitter feed: http://twitter.com/AP_NFL Cheap Jerseys China NFL Jerseys Cheap NBA Jerseys Wholesale NHL Jerseys Wholesale MLB Jerseys Cheap Soccer Jerseys China Wholesale NCAA Jerseys Wholesale Football Jerseys Wholesale Basketball Jerseys Wholesale Baseball Jerseys ' ' '
